Polier Rumors Completely False
On February 16, 2004, Alex Polier made a statement to the press, "For the last several days I have seen Internet and tabloid rumors relating to me and Senator John Kerry. Because these stories were false, I assumed the media would ignore them. It seems that efforts to peddle these lies continue, so I feel compelled to address them. I have never had a relationship with Senator Kerry, and the rumors in the press are completely false. Whoever is spreading these rumors and allegations does not know me, but should know the pain they have caused me and my family. I am in Kenya with my fiance visiting his family, and we ask that the press respect our privacy and leave all of us alone."
The Drudge Report
The Drudge Report was the first publication to run with this rumor/story. According to the Drudge Report, John Kerry's campaign was about to derail. Drudge stated that "General Wesley Clark, who, in an off-the-record conversation with a dozen reporters earlier this week, plainly stated: 'Kerry will implode over an intern issue.' Reporters who witnessed Clark making the stunning comments marvel at the General's reluctance to later confirm they were spoken -- only to later endorse Kerry for the nomination!" Drudge is responsible for breaking the
Bill Clinton / Monica Lewinsky marital infidelity story.
Kerry denied the accusations on Imus in the Morning on MSNBC. He said,"Well there is nothing to report, so there is nothing to talk about. There's nothing there. There's no story." He later was more definitive when talking to some Wisconsin reporters, "I just deny it categorically. It's rumour. It's untrue. Period."
General Clark's campaign called the report "utter rubbish" according to the Times Online. Clark is supposed to drop out of the campaign and endorse Kerry on February 13, 2004.
Alex Polier
The Online Sun was the first to report that the name of the "intern" was Alex Polier, a 24-year-old woman. They have since removed the story from their site. Polier denies ever even being an intern for John Kerry.
